The Women by T.C. Boyle
About the women in the life of Frank Lloyd Wright, the greatest architect in the world (according to him). FLW is one of my favorite architects so I’m always interested when there is something to read about him.
The book focused on the personalities of the women and left FLW as neither hero nor villian, although he was probably both. It was set mostly in Taliesen in Spring Green, WI, but also in Oak Park and Chicago. Being an architect, and from Chicago, I am ashamed to say that I’ve never visited Taliesen (east or west) but it is something I need to do.

A gorgeous day at the ballpark
Perfect weather
Fabulous seats.
Surrounded by other Cub fans.
Right in front of us-the heart of the fan base
Cubs beat the Giants
Made the day all worthwhile.
AT&T Park is a great baseball park. Reminds me of Wrigley Field

01/43
The easiest thing for me to do is photograph Kona, and I will use him to start this off. But I will try to focus on other dogs, too.
Weekend of September 26th
_Not as long of a week this week as last. I took Thursday and Friday off. Thursday was our wedding anniversary and unfortunately I got a migraine. Friday was migraine hangover. _

The Embarcadero in San Francisco
People walking.
I love the shadows from the street lights
And the spot of colors of the people walking.
Red
Yellow
Blue
What people wear never cease to amaze me.
September 24th
Today is our wedding anniversary.
We drove up to Sonoma for lunch.
Ate at the Swiss Hotel, on the patio, which is covered by a pergola, upon which grapes grow.
It is the time of year for harvest.
The grapes were hanging down and ripening.
Very quaint town.
September 23rd
Another trip to the airport.
Another flight.
Another evening waiting to go home.
This is LAX, one of the original terminals I think.
It carries the same Jetson’s theme in the architecture as the original air traffic control tower.
50s circles.
September 22nd
Another night.
Another hotel.
Another hotel room.
At least this is one of my favorite hotels
And I was upgraded to a junior suite.
This is the Beverly Hilton, where the golden globes are held.
Built in the 60’s by Merv Griffin. I love the look and feel of this hotel. Very 60s Hollywood.

It has been 38 days
Since his last seizure and he had one this morning at 5:00 am. It was fairly mild. He had just got up on the bed when it hit. Mrrad held him through it. I noticed this morning that he has a rash on his tummy and a cut in his armpit. He may have been bitten by something which can cause a seizure in him. He also hurt his right front leg/shoulder and has been limping for the last two days. Poor guy. He’s having a tough week. Today is our 15th wedding anniversary and we’re both off of work so we can hang with him.

September 21st
Fall is here.
However, this is historically the hottest week of the year in San Francisco.
When it gets hot, the fog comes to in cool things down.
It creeps in through the “gate” and over the hills in a thin covering to start.
It gets thicker.
Here it makes the hills look like bit marshmellows.

September 20th
Its Sunday.
A day of not much action.
A day for hanging out.
A day for naps.
Everyday is Sunday for Kona.
He’s a master of hanging out.
and taking naps
and not much action.
September 19th
When I took the dog out yesterday there was a flock of crows flying crow chaos formation raising a racket with their cawwing. I don’t know what set them off, but I felt like I had my own personal scene of “Birds”, which, by the way, was filmed about 30 miles from where I live on the Marin coast.
September 3rd
Transportion day. The west coast home of the Goodyear blimp. At least I don’t have to use the blimp for transportation
Landing at SFO with another plane coming in at the same time.
September 1st
This is from the new performing arts theater in the new Music building at UCSD. I love the planes of the ceiling that they designed for acoustics.
The seating in the performing arts center.

Its been a long week.
I’m glad to be home after being gone all week.
A week in southern California.
The tree seems to have grown an umbillical cord.
What’s up with that?

Almost finished
I received all of the photos/scans that I sent out last week. The only thing left are those photos in albums that don’t come out. Now I need to back up and store—the easy jobs.

Hmm.
Somehow I doubt that the weight of the world is carried at Tiffany’s.
But then expectations must be high if you are at Tiffany’s

September 13th
Very cool old convertible. I saw it twice around town today. Its owner must have been taking it out for its Sunday walk
September 12th
Sunset in the City. Incredible colors. What is difficult to see is that what appears to be hills in the distance is really a fog bank. If you look very closely you can see a bit of the top of hill peaking above the fog bank.

FTF Weekend of Setember 12
Didn’t sleep well last night because we were awakened by a very loud clap of thunder. We’re having dry lightening and thunder which is incredibly unusual for us. And of course I was hypervigilant because this is the type of weather that can send Kona into a seizure. He’s just fine though
-Meet with L.--grocery store-
Pick up Kona meds
Massage
Go to mom’s to install new phone
Make copies of photo DVD
Take/mail copies of DVD to family
Start Mom’s photo book

September 9th
I photograph these buildings in Century City often, probably because they are across the street from the hotel I usually stay in. But this was the first time my room was on axis with the hole in the first building, the negative space between the second pair of buildings, right to the Hollywood hills.

Tuesday September 8th
Taking another PTO day today (the first one I’ll actually record because I won’t have a marathon work week). I didn’t sleep well last night for some reason. I think today will be a paperwork and errand kind of day. I haven’t left the house for the last three days and should get out and accomplish a few things. I always feel better when the niggling things are done.

September 7th
For the last three days I’ve gone nowhere, done nothing, and have only been inspired by the gorgeous Kona.
Yippee!!!
I packaged up all of the rest of the photos that I want scanned (except for my wedding photos)and they will be on their way tomorrow. The only things I would have left to scan are those things that are in albums and will require hand scanning-and I’ve done a lot of those already.
Septembe 7th Today I am grateful for . . .
a long week-end
a sleep marathon-I’m feeling better
three weeks since Kona’s last seizure
Kona’s blood level of medication appears to be good
eight weeks until Hawaii
my wonderful husband
great summer weather
PTO
Finally sent out request for b-day wishes and memories
for mom’s memory book.
It took me forever to get it done. Just could not get motivated. But with her birthday a month away I had to get it done so people could respond if they were so inclined. I need to send one more email to my cousin and ask her to send onto other cousins whose contact information I do not have.
Monday September 7th

Sunday September 6th
I managed to accomplish nothing on my list yesterday (except start the laundry). I took a 4 hour nap and had no energy. I also have no energy today after sleeping for 11 hours last night. What’s up with that? I’ll put the same items on the list but don’t think I will accomplish any of them since I don’t feel well. :-(

September 4th
Today is our slava (saints day) but did nothing to celebrate it. Another flower, a gerbera daisy. I love the color and the natural perfection of the flower.
Doing well
Took Kona for a blood test on Thursday and then took him for a bath. He is so soft and shiny now. The vet called last night and said that his blood phenobarb levels are at 26.5 which is well within the therapeutic range of 10-40. His levels had gone down to 21 when his seizure started to occur every few weeks. They were around 24-25 when he was stable. We also have a lot “room” for increasing his meds if necessary. It appears that his body was metabolizing it faster than before. I hope to get him stable since we are going on vacation at the end of October and I want him stable to leave him with anyone.
Saturday September 5th
Am not feeling particularly motivated. Even though I was supposed to have two days off this week, I still logged 57 hours on my time card. I now have three days that I’m NOT going to do any work, just the stuff I want to. I’m also not feeling particularly social, so I think I’ll skip today’s party in favor of the one tomorrow with mrrad’s band mates.

send out requests for mom’s memory book (must get done today)

August 31st
The view from my hotel room balcony of downtown LA at sunset. You can see the reflection of the sun off of the buildings. What appears to be cloud cover over the city is really the smoke migrating from the fires in LA.
August 30th
A flower photo. Its been a while since I’ve posted one of those. Interestingly there are not as many flowers during the summer out here as there is during other times of the years. I’m not sure what this is, but it could be a bourginvilla (sp)
